Types of bonus

    How a casino bonus works

When you accept a bonus, the casino adds bonus money or spins to your account and attaches conditions to it. Until those conditions are met, the bonus and anything you win with it usually cannot be withdrawn, and in many terms your own deposit is tied up as well.

Wagering: deposit plus bonus, or bonus only

Wagering is the amount you must bet before a bonus becomes withdrawable. It is quoted as a multiple, and the base matters as much as the number. 30× the bonus on a €20 bonus means €600 of bets. 30× the deposit plus bonus on a €20 deposit with a €20 match means €1,200: twice as much for the same headline multiple.

    Win caps and maximum bets

Many offers cap what you can withdraw from bonus winnings, often as a multiple of the deposit or the bonus. In the example above, the €20 deposit can turn into at most €200 of withdrawable bonus winnings, however well the session goes.

Most terms also set a maximum stake while a bonus is active, often €5 a spin or bet. Going over it can void the bonus and its winnings, even by accident.

    Deadlines, excluded games and activation

    • Deadlines: wagering windows range from a few days to a month. Five days to place €1,200 of bets is a very different task from thirty.
    • Excluded games: some slots do not count towards wagering at all, and table games often count for less.
    • Contribution: a game that counts at 10% makes the real turnover ten times larger.
    • Activation: some offers must be switched on before you deposit and cannot be added afterwards.

    Choosing between offers

Compare the turnover you need, the time you have to do it and the cap on what you can keep. A smaller match with a lower multiple and no cap can be worth more than a headline package spread over four deposits.

    Bonuses are optional

You can usually decline a bonus and play under the general terms instead. And no bonus deadline is a reason to keep playing: forfeiting a bonus costs you its winnings, while stopping costs nothing.

    Questions

    Common questions

    What does 30× wagering mean?

It means betting thirty times a base amount before the bonus can be withdrawn. Check the base: 30× the bonus and 30× the deposit plus bonus are very different amounts.

Can I withdraw before finishing the wagering?

Usually, but withdrawing early normally cancels the bonus and any winnings made with it. Some terms also require your deposit to be wagered once before it can be withdrawn.

    Are no-wagering bonuses really free?

They have no betting requirement on winnings, but they are usually smaller and often carry their own limits, such as a maximum win or a short expiry.
